IT Staffing & Consulting: Frequently Asked Questions
For technology leaders weighing staff augmentation, project outsourcing, or a hybrid of both. These answers cover how we engage, how we test skills, and what makes regulated-industry IT different.
What is the difference between staff augmentation and statement-of-work delivery?
Staff augmentation places consultants under your direction: you manage the work, we supply and employ the people. Under a statement of work, we own an outcome: a migration completed, an application delivered, a test suite automated, with milestones and acceptance criteria. Augmentation preserves your control; SOW transfers delivery risk to us. Many engagements start as augmentation and graduate to SOW once trust is built.
Which technology roles does Vakula staff?
Cloud and DevOps engineers, data engineers and analysts, software developers across the modern stack, QA and automation engineers, ERP and CRM specialists, network and cybersecurity professionals, and technical project managers. We staff individual specialists and complete pods, for example, a lead plus two developers and a QA engineer as one unit.
How do you actually test a consultant's technical skills before we see them?
Every candidate passes a technical evaluation matched to the role (hands-on exercises for developers, scenario walkthroughs for infrastructure and security roles, and portfolio review for data work) before a human interview with a technically fluent recruiter. You should never be the first party to discover a skills gap; our screening exists so that your interview confirms fit rather than performs discovery.
Can your consultants work in validated GxP computer-system environments?
This is the specific reason life-sciences companies choose us over generalist IT firms. Consultants placed into pharmaceutical and medical device IT environments understand computerized system validation discipline: documented requirements, traceability, change control, and audit trails. An excellent cloud engineer who has never worked under validation can stall a regulated project; we screen for that dimension explicitly.
Do you support remote, hybrid, and onsite engagements?
All three. Infrastructure, data, and development roles are routinely delivered remote or hybrid; some client environments (manufacturing sites, secure networks, regulated labs) require onsite presence, and we recruit specifically for location when they do. The engagement model is set by your environment, not by our convenience.
How quickly can an IT consultant start?
For mainstream skills, expect a shortlist within days and a start inside two weeks. Niche combinations (a specific ERP module, a security clearance, a validated-environment requirement) extend the search, and we tell you that upfront with a realistic date rather than an optimistic one. Speed you can plan around beats speed you can't trust.
What happens when we want to hire a contractor permanently?
Conversion is a feature, not a conflict. Our agreements define a straightforward conversion path, typically after a qualifying contract period or via a conversion fee, so a consultant who has proven themselves on your team can join it permanently. We would rather convert a successful placement than block one.
Can Vakula run a long-term managed team rather than individual placements?
Yes. For sustained workloads (application support, data operations, ongoing QA) we assemble and manage a dedicated team with a single point of accountability, defined service expectations, and continuity planning so that individual attrition never becomes your problem. You manage outcomes; we manage the bench behind them.
How are IT contracting rates structured?
Hourly bill rates that reflect the skill, seniority, and scarcity of the role, inclusive of employment costs and our margin. SOW work is priced against deliverables instead. We keep rate cards honest and explain them line by line, because technology leaders compare vendors constantly and opaque rates are the fastest way to lose a client's trust.
How do you keep consultants engaged for the full length of a project?
Attrition mid-project is the biggest hidden cost in IT staffing, and it is usually caused by the staffing firm, not the client: consultants leave vendors who go silent after placement. Our account managers stay in contact with every consultant on assignment, resolve issues early, and plan extensions ahead of end dates, because a consultant who feels supported finishes what they started.
What industries does Vakula serve, and why does life-sciences IT stand apart?
We serve enterprise clients across industries, with a deliberate concentration in pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device technology. Life-sciences IT carries obligations most IT vendors never encounter (validation, data integrity, audit readiness), and pairing that context with mainstream engineering skill is our distinctive strength.
How do you protect our data and confidential systems when consultants join?
Every consultant works under a signed confidentiality obligation before day one, and we support your access-control process (role-based accounts, security training, offboarding checklists) rather than working around it. For sensitive environments we align to your security review requirements as part of onboarding, not as an afterthought.
