The H-1B registration period for fiscal year 2024 closed in March 2023 with a record number of registrations, far above the previous year, against the same 85,000 visa cap. USCIS later reported concerns about multiple registrations for the same beneficiary and began work on a beneficiary-centric selection process.

Selection odds for a single registration fell to a small fraction, so sponsors could not plan on cap-subject H-1B hiring for roles that needed filling that year. Demand shifted toward consultants already in status, cap-exempt employers, and US-based talent.
What this meant for consultants
For experienced professionals on OPT, H-4 EAD or transferable H-1B status, the market was strong. Vakula's position has always been to agree the employment model and any immigration support in writing before interview, so that nobody is surprised at offer stage.
